Description: General Motors’ event
sponsorship of a celebrity / influencer / philanthropic
Event. The Take Wings Foundation assists African-American
teenaged girls in Northern California and was founded and
is lead by actress, Terri J. Vaughn (The Steve Harvey Show/WB).
The Event was co-hosted by Cedric the Entertainer (Cedric
the Entertainer Presents/Fox) and honored renowned journalist,
political commentator, author, and radio show host, Tavis
Smiley (The Tavis Smiley Show from NPR, The Tom Joyner Morning
Show). Other celebrities included Angela Bassett (Waiting
to Exhale, What’s Love Got To Do With It?),
D.L. Hughley (The Hughley’s /UPN), Eric LaSalle (ER/NBC),
Mykelti Williamson (Boomtown/NBC), Nia Long (Big Momma’s
House, Soul Food), and Tangi Miller (Felicity/WB).

Our Role:
- Established GM relationship with Ms. Vaughn to participate
in the 2002 and 2003 GM/Image Awards Safety Seat Event
in Los Angeles.
- Sourced the partnership opportunity and presented the
request to the GM Community Relations Department.
Activities:
- Silent Auction
- Musical Performance by an all-star band including Patrice
Rushen, Philip Bailey (Earth, Wind & Fire), Ndugo
Chancellor and Paul Jackson.
- Presentation to Mr. Tavis Smiley
- Remarks – Cedric the Entertainer
