Concept: Two-day African-American (Consumer & Small Business) technology conference in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York and Chicago. Tie-in with local community tech centers.

Keynote Speakers: Bill Gates (Chairman, Microsoft), Sinbad (Comedian/Technology Enthusiast) Quincy Jones (Music & Film Producer) and Steve Ballmer (CEO, Microsoft)

Objectives: Increase the number of African-Americans using technology – Provide access to resources, build awareness, facilitate dialogue / networking, product demo opportunities

Format: Symposium, Exhibition & Workshops

2002 Corporate Sponsorship: Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, AT&T and Handspring

Results: The inaugural BIT tour was a successful “pioneer” effort. A total of approximately 40,000 (8,000 to 10,000 per Event ) African-Americans registered and attended the Event some arriving as early as came as early as 7:00 AM on Saturday morning. Positioning: Tavis’ presentation of BIT helped to bring technology down to grass roots level attainable level. Defining the Market: The data base of registered attendees help to define the African American technology market.
